MOROCCO
I recently went to go to Morocco. Morocco is in northwestern Africa, in the Sahara dessert. I flew into Rabat, which is the capital city. Rabat is located at about 34°north, and 6° west. When I first got there, I walked around a local souk. Because I was in the capital, souks take place everyday. But if I were to be in a smaller village, they would only occur one day a week. A souk is an open aired market that takes place in Morocco. At souks, art, crafts and food are sold. I thought that it was very neat watching people negotiate prices in Arabic. When I went, it was the end of spring… in the United States that is. So it was hot, dry, flat and sandy, like most other deserts. Even though Morocco is in the desert, there are still two different mountain ranges. The Rif Mountains and High Atlas Mountains are the two ranges. The Rif Mountains are up north, close to the Mediterranean Sea and only about 50-100 miles away from Spain. The High Atlas Mountains are in eastern Morocco, by the Draâ River. In the duration of my trip, I went to go see the High Atlas Mountains. With small amounts of snow on the peaks, they were gorgeous! They were especially beautiful in sunrise and sunset. On my way back to Rabat from the High Atlas Mountains, I made a brief stop at the Middle Atlas Forrest. This forest was somewhat interesting, considering most of Morocco is flat and desert-y, without any trees. They were real trees too! They kind of looked like pine trees. Along the southeastern side, runs the Sebou River. Most of Morocco is Islamic, along with most of northern Africa. Recently, in Morocco, the French foreign trade minister, Nicole Bricq has paid a visit to Morocco for a Pan African meeting. With her appearance, that shows the relationship between France and Morocco. There has also been a recent count of 9 medics for every 10,000 people, a very small ratio. They have a total of about 30,000 medics… that is well below the need.
